Qlikview Data Solider Essentials Part 2 – API Guides
Yes it ships with Qlikview so everyone should have it but not everyone is aware of it…and the API’s can be really useful when it comes to getting the last drop of functionality out of Qlikview so I’m giving them a promotion here.
Download the v11 Guide here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0nQ9tZcY4wzN2E1WjgtRGNSTEtsTHhoX1RuN1l4Zw
Download the v10 Guide here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0nQ9tZcY4wzSU1kWmtnR2tTUDJXMDhsSE11MjE0UQ
And for those living in the past v9 here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B0nQ9tZcY4wzbGxDVkZ3SThSVUdWOU9KbDYwejJrZw
(You should already have the relevant version of the API Guide installed in C:\Program Files\QlikView\Documentation)
If you’ve never dabbled in the API paddling pool then I can highly recommend it (to a point) you can really push Qlikview to new areas and achieve things that even the continuously expanding Actions can’t. To find out all there is to know about using API’s / Macros with Qlikview you should have the ‘Qlikview Automation Referemce.pdf’ stored alonside the API Guide.qvw.
It should of cause be noted that Actions were first introduced to stop people needing to use API’s / Macros, why?; because Macros can be dangerous when note written properly, they can be very inefficient and cause no end of problems. Also Actions work on the Server where as as far as I know the majority if not all Macro’s can be unreliable when deployed to Qlikview Server.
If you’ve had any exposure to VBA in Excel or Access you’ll be well away here.
As always; All the best,
